Costa Rica Travel Blog - Tamarindo, La Fortuna and Monteverde Tours as an AuDHD Traveler - Neurodivergent travels

As many neurodivergent people know, traveling can be intense and planning it, very intimidating. This is my first weeklong trip where I really thought of myself and my needs.

As I am traveling, I find that a day of rest is always important, because these nature hikes can be overwhelming for me. Everything from the humidity, clothes, and changes in temperature can cause overstimulation on any day let alone a day of sight seeing. For this trip I purposefully planned there to be a lazy day every other day (written on the itinerary as “do whatever the fuck we want”)

On Monday, we headed out at 6 AM from Tamarindo to our tour in La Fortuna.  I booked the tours with Seven Sense Costa Rica, which included pick up, lunch, the tours and drop off.  (Affiliate links at the bottom of this post). Our guide, Mainor, was wonderful and accommodating.  He made us feel comfortable and gave us so much information.  This particular tour does have a wheelchair accessible hike that has ramps.  If you need this accommodation, email them before booking your tours so you know that you are able to enjoy everything on the tour. This was at Místico Park - Arenal Hanging Bridges.

We got to see a Strawberry Poison-Dart frog (also known as blue jeans frogs), stingless bees and lots of hard working Leaf Cutter Ants!

At the end of the day, we headed to our hotel, Orcedeas Boutique Hotel.  I allowed for Tuesday to be a day of rest and hanging out at the pool.  This hotel even had a seated bar at the pool! There were so many beautiful plants and gardens throughout the hotel grounds. There is a restaurant so you can stay for breakfast lunch and dinner. We had our lunch in the shade while we lounged in our swimwear. I loved their Mai Tai! 😋

On Wednesday we headed out to Monteverde hanging bridges with bird watching.  We also got to see a sloth habitat! Afterwards we went to have lunch and I finally got Casado. I got fish for mine. 😋 Yum!

We then headed back to Tamarindo for a relaxing end of the week.

On Friday, we went to a wonderful chocolate tasting and tour at Reina’s Chocolate in Tamarindo. I found that if the cocao is high quality, dark chocolate is pretty good!

We finished up the weekend with dinner on the beach and some water time! Playa Tamarindo!
